The Town of Dalton’s Fiscal Year 2017 Tax Rate has been reviewed and approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Revenue. Based on the Board of Assessors’ presentation at the annual Classification Hearing, the Select Board voted on a residential factor of 1, keeping a single tax rate for Fiscal Year 2017.
The Fiscal Year 2017 Tax Rate of $19.87 is up $0.24 from the Fiscal Year 2016 rate of $19.63. The Dalton Fire District FY17 Rate of $1.09 is up $0.11 from FY 2016 Rate of $0.98, for an overall Rate of $20.96 per thousand dollars of value. The Town’s total taxable property valuation for Fiscal Year 2017 decreased from $595,474,465 to $592,710,596.
Taxpayers are encouraged to read the back of the tax bill for additional information and instructions. All questions regarding assessment and valuations should be directed to the Assessors’ Office at 413-684-6111, Ext. 10, 22 or 23. All Exemption applicants will be notified by mail of their application approval or denial. Applications for Property Tax Abatements are due in the Assessors’ on or before the due date of the FY 2017 actual tax bill. If property has been sold or if there is a change of address, taxpayers should forward this information to the Tax Collector or Assessor’s Office.
For convenience of taxpayers, the Collector’s Office and Assessors’ Office are open Monday through Wednesday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There is a Drop Box located at the entrance of Town Hall to drop payments after hours.
